MOON HALO

April 14, 2009 - 11pm
My grandma was outside taking out the washed clothes when she shouted "Leigh, Leigh, come out. Hurry!" I immediately ran outside wondering what was going on. She pointed to the sky.
My mouth was wide open,waaaaaaaaaa... And my grandma asked,
"What is it? Whatever it is, it's so beautiful".
I'm trying to remember what it is called. My memory was traveling back to my high school Science class about Moon and it hit me. It's a Moon Halo!
It was awesome.
Its a white colored cloud in perfect circle surrounding the full moon and the moon is perfectly in the center of it, shining so brightly.
The halo has a reddish color on the inside and blueish on the outside.
I felt lucky that I've seen it. I've never seen a Moon Halo before. It was amazing!

This is exactly the same to the one I've seen. Got this from Wikipedia.

WHAT IS A HALO?
According to Wikipedia, a halo (also known as a nimbus, icebow or Gloriole) is an optical phenomenon that appears near or around the Sun or Moon, and sometimes near other strong light sources such as street lights. There are many types of optical halos, but they are mostly caused by ice crystals in cold cirrus clouds located high (5–10 km, or 3–6 miles) in the upper troposphere. The particular shape and orientation of the crystals is responsible for the type of halo observed. Light is reflected and refracted by the ice crystals and may split up into colors because of dispersion, similarly to the rainbow.
